Source: WildFilmsIndia

Excerpts from the video description:
"In association with internationally acclaimed fashion designer Atsu Sekhose, the Nagaland Women development department showcased Naga textile art and design at a fashion show on the first day of Hornbill Festival, Saturday at Bamboo Hall, Kisama. Held under the theme 'Celebrating Naga textile art and design', the show offered a glimpse of the department's activities focusing on the achievements of women partnering with the department. The materials and textiles used for producing most of the garments have been developed and woven by Naga womenfolk at the department's Textile Resource Centre, Meriema.

For the other garments, the department's in-house designers developed indigenous Naga tribal themed prints and motifs which were then printed on various materials using digital printing technology and other conventional methods. Presented under the brand name 'Myki', the garments bore a distinct Naga ethnicity, yet which was very modern and appealing. The designs and garments produced by the team of in-house designers of the Textile Resource Centre included a collection of trendy and contemporary pants, tops and dresses for women and men's collection of shirts, pants and topcoats. The collection relied on creative use of bright colors and smart clean silhouettes.

The Myki collection included a line of clothes in camel and beige tones using hand woven textiles of silks and cotton, accessorized with accessories and jewelleries, including footwear which have been manufactured by an uneducated, self-taught, single Naga mother. Myki also showcased a collection of military inspired men's wear with sharply cut tailored coats accessorized with Naga motif print scarf. Atsu Sekhose's collection under his eponymous label 'Atsu' continued to inspire, with his creative and refreshing use of textiles developed at the Textile Resource Centre. The collection for women featured chic pencil skirts, peplum top, shirts, jumpsuit and dresses, among others, bearing his trademark impeccable clean cuts and smooth lines.

About the designer: Delhi based designer Atsu Sekhose graduated from NIFT, New Delhi in 2001. Apprenticed with one of India's leading fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani and Spanish high street brand ZARA for a couple of years before launching his eponymous label 'ATSU' in late 2006. Since his 2007 spring /summer debut, the brand has grown immensely and received wide accolade domestically. Primarily known for his chic, feminine and understated clothing Atsu's line has evolved into a complete ready-to-wear collection which firmly holds his signature style and modern adaptation to classic silhouettes."

Wave of Korean Culture in Nagaland

With the popularity of Korean movies among the people in Nagaland, Korean fashion and trend is a hit. You will see youngsters dress just like the personalities in the movies - the hair styles, dressing, and even some common phrases. "Saranghae (I love you)" must be the most common phrase among young girls. And the pose with arms lifted above the head to form a heart shape is also common the girl folk (laughs). For the guys, you will see them in tight pant and converse shoes, and some fancy hair-do. And a blazer worn casually, of course.

This video is about the Korean culture trends in Nagaland. The commentary in the video by volunteers are not just about Korean fashion but about how youths in Nagaland adopt other cultures and fashion very fast. Not to critic but we found the perspective in the video interesting to share. The video could have been done much better though. :(

Comment on the same subject in another article on GlobalVoicesOnline.org :
"Korean culture is flooding into Nagaland. New trade treaties between India and Korea facilitated the exchange of Korean goods and enabled them to enter Nagaland with greater ease. Additionally, Nagas have long felt neglected by the central Indian government. This is especially the case with Naga youth. Many believe this lack of identity with central India informs Nagas’ embrace of Korean culture. […] Naga youth have now started to adapt Korean culture. Korean television channels, programs, movies, and clothes are popular among Naga youth. Korean companies are looking into investing in Nagaland. The Nagaland State Government has even taken steps to embrace Korean culture: it hosts an annual Indian-Korean cultural festival. However, this wave of Korean culture threatens traditional Naga customs. […] Traditional Naga culture is unique. Nagaland is comprised of sixteen tribes. Each tribe uses a unique language and has its own rich cultural traditions of dance, song, festivals and other key features. Korean culture’s strong pull on young Nagas will make it more difficult to preserve Nagaland’s important tradition and identity".

"The most watched TV channel in the state is the Korean channel Arirang TV, the DVD and CD shops are bursting with Korean films, the hottest hair-dos offered by salons are the ones flaunted by popular Korean actors and actresses, shops are selling street fashion that are currently in vogue in Korea, cultural events in the state has special ‘Korean songs’ contests, sport events now have categories like ‘Korean wrestling’".
